NATURAL COMPOSITES

Client/School: Clemson University

Location: Clemson, USA

Collaborations: Joseph Choma

Participants: 15 Students

Intended as an opportunity for undergraduate students to engage in applied research, the course embraced the pedagogical approach: teaching through research, research throughteaching. Unlike a typical course, students learned by assisting Professor Choma and I with research into composite structures and materials. In particular, this course explored alternative natural materials, methods and designs for deployable structures, shells, and other building components. I was invited to directly teach with Joseph, and to work with him and the student on exploring local materials and vernacular methods of construction with focus on Jordanian vernacular architecture.
