Research Project: Structural Crafts

Competition Entry : Velux- Light

This research explored innovative approaches to daylight in architecture, challenging conventional methods of framing and controlling light. Inspired by natural light interactions like shadows and reflections, the project proposed using Transparent Mortar (TM) to integrate translucency into structural elements.

By combining recycled glass, resin, and sugar composites, the study aimed to create cost-effective, sustainable materials that diffuse light and enhance daylight factors. Experimental work with plaster and acrylic demonstrated the potential for spontaneous, light-diffusing surfaces that shift with changing angles. TM offers a novel approach to light in architecture, blending material innovation with environmental sensitivity.
