HOUSE OF THE ORANGE GROVE

2022

Location: Segovia, Spain

Collaborations: Salvador Gomis

Area: 120 m2

The House of the Orange Grove, located in the rural surroundings of Valencia, serves as a seasonal retreat, especially during the orange harvest and summer months. The house draws from Valencia’s rich tradition of ceramic tile craftsmanship, incorporating these tiles as integral structural elements. The design listens to the forms of weaving, creating structural depth in both horizontal and vertical surfaces. With its single-floor structure partially sunken into the earth, the house leverages geothermal cooling and heating. The bending retaining walls counteract the weight of the soil, mirroring the vaults that arch against gravity.
