LA HOJA ( THE LEAF )

2019

Client/School: Private House

Location: Bétera (Valencia), Spain

Collaborations: Salvador Gomis (Master Builder)

Participants: 12 Students

This pavilion was designed for a chef’s house, inspired by the form of an olive leaf. The concept originated from a master builder, whose small-tile model envisioned a load-bearing shell structure. Through structural form-finding, the geometry was refined into three edge arches with varying heights, creating an abstract leaf shape, responding to the sunmovement to create ashadingarea for culinary lessons. The pavilionwas constructed during a collaborative tile-vaulting workshop, engaging builders, architects, and engineers in a hands-on process that emphasized the use of traditional techniques for new forms.
