This experimental pavilion was created as part of an MPhil in Architecture and Urban Studies at the University of Cambridge. The In Situ Pavilion investigates structures arising from simple, on-site applications, resulting in what can be described as self-generated constructions. By hypothesizing that structural forms are intrinsic to the properties of their materials, the project emphasizes straightforward, site-specific guidework and formwork solutions for compression-based structures, promoting grassroots approaches to local construction.

The making of the three vaults utilized bending-active behavior to engineer bamboo rods capable of consistently forming a catenary section when bent. These bamboo rods served as structural elements, enabling the builder to define the vault surfaces with precision and efficiency.
