URBAN FURNITURE

Client/School: Universityof Castilla la Mancha, School of Architecture

Location: Toledo, Spain

Collaborations: Salvador Gomis (Master Builder)

Participants: 100 Students

In this workshop, approximately 100 architecture students explored traditional vaultingtechniques through small design-build projects. These projects involved creating arched and vaulted urban furniture using tiles and plaster, supported by lessons on form-finding and shell structure calculations using graphic statics. The hands-on trainingincluded constructing a small-scale pavilion, allowing students to practice vaulting techniques at a 1:1 scale. Upon completing the benches, the structures were tested directly by the students who built them, blending practical application with immediate feedback on their designs.
