Location: Segovia, Spain
Collaborations: Princeton University, TUDelft, ETSAM, PSU, Angel Maria Lopez
Area: 20 m2
The Structural Lazo Dome is an experimental installation inspired bycarpintería de lazo, a traditional Spanish woodwork combining structural timber roofing with Islamic geometry. This project reimagines medieval Spanish timber domes, focusing on scalability, structural performance, and circularity. Crafted from local pine in Segovia’s mountains, the dome integrates ornament and structure into a unified element, unlike historical precedents. Its design features identical triangular modules, making it fully dismountable and adaptable, capable of transforming between a dome and a pavilion. The Lazo Dome represents a blend of craft, engineering, and design, showcasing innovation in traditional timber construction.
